Lost Planet 3 Trailer & Screenshots

The first trailer for Lost Planet 3 has surfaced on YouTube. Looks like a leak with no official word or high quality version.

The trailer looks like a return to something more like the first game. In the second we saw that the planet was thawing out and there were huge deserts and rain forests in addition to the snowy waste, but here we've just got ice again.

Turns out that's because LP3 is actually a prequel to the first game, meaning that the planet is completely harsh and frozen without any of the second game's warmer environments.

The vital suits seem to have gotten a lot bigger as well, to the point where I'm not sure they should be 'suits' anymore. I'd be more inclined to call them mechs, but the dialog in the trailer still says suits.

Most interesting to me are the so-called pack hunters. They don't look like bugs at all, they're much more mammalian, which is a first for the series. They still look like akrid though, with glowing orange weak points inside their mouths. I'm interested to see if there's a lore explanation for these creatures, or if they're just there.

Of course, the trailer shows no indication of what actual gameplay will be like, so while it looks cool it doesn't give any indication of the quality of the game. But that's what screenshots are for! These official screenshots sacrifice a little realism for an absolutely gorgeous, blue-heavy environment with some of the most realistic ice and snow I've ever seen.

Some of the screenshots could be cutscenes, but others definitely look like gameplay, with a HUD and UI elements visible, so it seems highly likely that the game will actually look like this. Awesome.

I'm excited to see how this game turns out.
